olivia’s moisturizing regimen!
BGLH: What is your hair type (kinky/curly/coily)?
Olivia: Type 3 under the nape – and the rest is Type 4. Nevertheless, I love it.
BGLH: What products do you use to moisturize? Why? How frequently do you moisturize (conditioner, deep conditioners, and daily applications…)?
Olivia:
1. Wash hair with Dudu-Osum Natural Shampoo in 6 sections.
2. Conditioner: Condition hair with Giovanni 50:50 Balanced Hair Remoisturizer on either side of head using a palm size amount. [It might seem like a lot but when you detangle & smooth it, it will be less]
3. Apply Kinky-Curly Knot Today or Giovanni Direct Leave-in Conditioner and detangle hair with using a wide-tooth comb [in sections].
4. Smooth conditioner and leave-in out from hair from top to bottom [no rinsing]
5. Deep Conditioner: Deep Condition (DC) hair using Neutrogena Mask or Pantene Mask… or simply Honey + Olive Oil with a heated cap for 40 minutes every time you wash your hair.
6. Rinse DC out.
7. Apply MORE Giovanni Direct Leave-in Conditioner and let sit for 4 minutes before you style your hair.
Daily Applications:
*IMPORTANT* If you wear twist outs or braids outs, make sure you apply some Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner or Oyin Handmade Juice & Berries Leave-In Spray and seal ends with Castor Oil before re-twisting/braiding for bed.
Always seal your ends with Castor oil.
Using Henna also helps stabilizes moisture.
what i love about olivia’s regimen:
at BGLH, we have spent an ample amount of time on proper combing techniques. olivia stresses the importance of using a wide tooth comb to detangle the hair properly. olivia keeps her hair care simple with minimal products. she uses castor oil to seal her ends before bed and credits henna with keeping moisture in her hair. because she provided a step by step tutorial, all the topics were not addressed on the top 11 reasons why natural women aren’t properly moisturized list, but i think her tutorial is useful to BGLH followers. check out olivia’s blog where she posts other tutorials on how she styles her pretty hair! love the big hair girl! BGLH approved!

what a beautiful young lady with great hair!
This is so opportune, I was looking for Olivia’s blog!! I happened to look at it once but did not bookmark it, then I couldn’t find it again!
At least I was sure it was Olivia’s blog. There is nothing in it now or is it my browser:(
Yeah, I tried to click on the link to her blog and it didn’t work for me either
. I’d like to take a look at some of her hairstyles. Beautiful hair, and again another simple but effective regimen.
@anonymous: It is very common for people [relaxed & natural, with no regard to ethnicity] to have various textures of hair throughout the head. My adoptive parent is a perfect example of this–with super straight strands, but a patch at the crown that always curls and frizzes! And she is Bulgarian, so yeah. It isn't a matter of trying to CLAIM anything. Inform yourself.
Anyway! I love Olivia's hair, too! She's so creative and fun
I think her blog address is
http://www.xo-weekendluxury.blogspot.com
@ Anonymous that is so rude and unfair, especially with the use of ‘many’. Everyone has the right to classify their hair as they see fit.
I think the problem is the hair classification system more than anything else.
I think the majority of women I’ve seen have more than one hair texture and the back tends to be looser than the front.
Who ever this anonymous person is haven’t you heard of women having more than one texture on their head? My question is when “type 3″ women claim to have “type 4″ hair in certain sections is that considered pathetic to?
Anyway I like some of the styles she does very cute!
Luv her hair!
I gave your blog an award! b/c I think you blog is fabulous. :0)

Great post but I’m sorry that she felt the need to add “nevertheless” as a qualifier.
Signed,
someone with type 3 hair at the center of her nape and type 4 everywhere else …who loves all of her hair unconditionally
Olivia, your hair is beautiful because you care for it beautifully. It is clear from looking at the condition of your hair that you love it. Thank you for being featured here. Many of us could not have done what you have done at your age and I appreciate it on behalf of all the young ladies who will now see you.
i’m not sure what anonymous said, but i love olivia’s hair and she takes great care of it. and it’s very possible to have more than one texture on your head. the hair on the crown of my head is like 3a. it’s so different from the rest of my hair that i have yet to find a moisturizing regimen for that section so that it doesn’t frizz and can at least look like the rest of my hair lol
Could her hair be any more gorgeous?
I think not!Really I’m not mad about the tiny qualifier because a lot of women still struggle with their 4 hair (poster excluded) so how about looking at that qualifier in the positive as I believe Olivia intended “yeah my hair has different textures but its mostly 4 kinky curly and it’s fierce!” Ha! Personally, I needed to see that and I’m sure many mixed type 4′s needed to see and read that too! Olivia your hair is gorgeous. Loving this blog.
I love her hair! And it’s funny cuz i used to use the same deep conditioner ( Nuetrogena Mask) but i ran out like two weeks ago and it does make your hair feel great and it’s also funny how we have the same name. lol
Her hair is beautifullll.
And so is she.
