Rachel’s Review: Dabur Vatika Oil

This, beloved readers is a great staple add-in for deep conditions, if you want to stick your pinky-toe into the world of Ayurveda for hair care (Ayurveda is a system of traditional medicine native to the Indian Subcontinent and practiced in other parts of the world as a form of alternative medicine.)
I must wax some serious poetry about this amazing product. In fact, I’m inspired to do so in the form of a haiku:
Oh, Vatika Oil,
How brightly my hair now shines,
Yes, I feel pretty
^_^ I like this. Can you tell? BAA! BAA! BAA! Translation: Fabulous!
This truly nourishes, conditions, rejuvenates, and improves circulation of the scalp (mine tingled pleasantly) when used as a leave-in or added to your usual deep condition. My hair and scalp were left supple, smooth, soft, fleecy and slightly stronger with every use.
How? The wonderful herbs already steeped in the coconut oil! Behold!
Ingredients:
Coconut oil (Cocos nucifere oil)
Neem (Azadirachta indica Leaf extract)
Brahmi (Centella asiatica Plant extract)
Fruit extracts of Amla
Bahera and Harar (extracts of emblica officinalis Terminalia belirica and Terminalia chebula),
Kapur kachri (Hedychium spicatum rhizome extract)
Henna (Lawsonia inermis leaf extrac)
Milk (lac)
Rosemary oil (Rosmarinus officinalis oil)
Lemon oil (Citrus limonum oil)
TBHQ (t-butyl hydroquinone)
Fragrance
It also leaves the hair with a great healthy shine/sheen, if used as a leave-in. This is also a great ready made oil treatment as the herbs are already mixed right in! Simply smear some on, pop on a shower cap and treat your hair to bliss. Add honey and your hair will never be the same. In a good way! ^_~
This is one of the few things I can oil my scalp with that I know it will be pleased with (normally, it cares for nothing but water).
This won’t “seal” your hair, but instead slowly sinks in and penetrates your hair and scalp getting all of its benefits right where you want them (this is due to the coconut oil base).
This rinses clean, as well, beloved readers. More importantly, when used as a leave-in, you won’t have bits of “this and that” falling out of your hair to startle unsuspecting passersby.
Unfortunately…it smells somewhat like…well, how can I say this? MRS. DASH SEASONING…! It is also terribly difficult to get out of the container, unless you heat it up in the microwave first (20 seconds on medium power always works for me ^_^).
However, this product’s benefits are well worth the odor (it’s not a strong odor, I might add and fades in a few hours, if noticeable at all) and troublesome packaging, it’s WONDROUS stuff.
It’s also cheap! Less than $4 at my local Indian Grocery.
I must say again: This adds shine, soothes dry scalps, can aid in treating dandruff, leaves your scalp feeling fresh, moisturizes hair and scalp alike, just may leave a pleasant tingle in its wake and sinks in deep to nourish your kinks, napps, clouds, coils, curls, waves, corkscrews and all around natural-awesome-ness.
Add to that, the bottle has gorgeous curves, a great green color scheme, cute graphics and simple font…more to love! ^0^
I’d also like to add, just between this little, golden lamb and you, beloved readers…if you buy coconut oil,the herbs and essential oils listed on the ingredient list in bulk and mix them up yourself…you can Vatika Oil yourself into Hair-Shangri-La for pennies a day! You’ll also avoid the preservatives used in this as well, this way, for those concerned. ^_~

im gonna try this thanks….my name is Rachel too!
I wonder if Ginger would get rid of the smell. I know Catherine over at hennaforhair advises adding some if you don’t like the smell of henna….
Gosh! I think I’m one of the few who LOVE this smell. I’m Trinidadian. Reminds me of home.
Henna! NO, henna is one of the worst ingredients to put in hair. NO, no, no.
Dabur Vatika Oil = Fail.
LOL your reviews always make me laugh! ^_^ I honestly thought this was a health smoothie at first glance, hmmm looks tasty lol.
More like hair food tasty lol. Sounds good, i’m not near any indian grocery store so i’ll have to try online. Thanks for the review!!
P.S. BAA lol
@Yoshi… I thought henna was great for hair. Why do you feel otherwise? I’m really interested to know.
yes! Vatika + Cantu condioner= softest hair I’ve ever felt!
(and what’s the deal with Henna? I heard it was good for you!)
P.S. And I feel you on the smell. I don’t know what Mrs. Dash smells like, but it definitely makes me think of Kheer (Indian rice pudding).
I use this on my daugthers and my hair love it..I like the smell It reminds me of my grandmother she was a big fan of natural stuff in her hair and I know a lot of sourthern say this lol….but she is half Indian and products like this always drew to her.
Although I do not use this as a deep conditioner, I do use it on my hair daily as a moisturizer for. Have been doing this for a year and I love it, love it, love it.
Vatika oil is really great as a hot oil treatment. I use this alone on my hair for about an hour 1x a week and the shine trenghening I get is great!
I agree with others. @yoshi please explain. I’ve used henna for a whole year (about 3x), and seriously it’s strengthened my hair. People say a lot of things are ‘bad’ for your hair. I just simply use what works.
I love, love, LOVE Vatika oil! I use it for everything! Like Michelle, I also love the smell. Maybe it’s an island thing (I’m from Bermuda). I pour it in a shallow container when I get it, which makes it easy to scoop out with my fingers or a spoon without having to heat it.
Well I know some natural that have used henna and it loosen their curl pattern. Henna plus Coconut oil actually darken hair too. I heard of some natural using this product and it darken their hair.
While I’m aware that adding alma can stop the process the of loosening the curl pattern (and that reddest hue,) and that the affects are temporary, that not what I want.
Besides my cosmetologist says that you shouldn’t put henna in hair. And since she ACTUALLY went to school for hair I’m believing her.
Yoshi,
The reason cosmetologists don’t recommend henna is due to 2 things. 1) You can’t color on top of henna without completely stripping the hair, and even then the color won’t turn out tight if it does take. 2) Most people don’t know that store bought henna is bad for you due to all the extra-stuff added to it.
Pure 100% is ok for your hair, the stretching of the curl patter is temporary (as in a day or two at most) if it happens at all. The first time I Henna’d I had it stretch out a little bit (I have smaller than spring coil hair) and the other 2 times nothing. I henna once a quarter to get rid of grays, strengthening treatment, and deep maroon highlights.
Dear Author bglhonline.com !
Very useful topic
hi
everone says VATIKA is for indian hair – can it be used on european and colored hair? i have some grey hairs and dye my hair in light brown color. do you think the henna will damage my hair?
thanks
Hmmm is it reasonable to call olive oil a polyunsaturated vegetable oil? Surely extra virgin olive oil is healthier than standard polyunsaturated oils? I seem to remember that olive oil is made up predominantly of monounsaturated oleic acid after all… Really, I use virgin organic coconut oil for cooking and in my smoothies but a little more virgin olive oil in my salads. I’ve used Vatika oil in my deep conditioners for almost 1 year. It’s fabulous!!! As far as the smell, I don’t really mind the odor. It does dissipate after a few hours. For the price and results, in my opinion, you won’t go wrong. Viva Vatika!!!! lol
I love love love that I came across this review!
I went to a local Asian market and found Vatika in the India isle. I was a little nervous at first but fell in love with the aroma.
I used Vatika as a hot oil treatment with coconut milk, olive oil, and coconut oil. Then I used it on my scalp after I washed and conditioned my hair. My hair is so soft and I’m sad to say I didn’t feel a tingle.
I am transitioning right now so I haven’t been able to fully enjoy my curls yet but I can see the difference in my natural hair. It’s so curly and full of life! I will definitely be using this for now on!
